The Senate consists of 50 members who serve a term of two years. The Lieutenant Governor is President of the Senate and presides over the daily session. The Lieutenant Governor is elected by the citizens of North Carolina for a four-year term and has no vote in the Senate except to break a tie. The Senate elects officers from their membership including the President Pro Tempore.

  • Spring Term: January 1-April 30 (deadline to apply is December 1)
  • Summer Term: May 1-August 30 (deadline to apply is April 1)
  • Fall Term: September 1-December 31 (deadline to apply is August 1)
  • Interns may work a maximum of 24 hours per week and Summer Clerks 40 hours per week
  • Interns are responsible for their own housing during the internship
