Overview: Section 7.34 of S.L. 2026-41 (Senate Bill 257) directs the School Planning Section of the Department of Public Instruction to contract with a third-party entity to maintain a digital platform to facilitate data sharing among local school administrative units (LEAs) and county governments regarding products and services purchased for elementary and secondary education, including capital improvement projects. All LEAs and county governments must participate in the digital platform and share relevant information regarding educational expenses. The digital platform must include at least the following components:
- A consolidated information database regarding all of the following education-related expenses:
- Status and details of expected, proposed, and issued local bonds.
- Interactive listings, ratings, reviews, and contract costs of vendors providing products and services, including heating, ventilation, and air conditioning and other services related to the maintenance of public school buildings.
- Document-sharing functionality related to purchased products and services, including capital improvement projects.
- The ability to advertise nationwide requests for proposals from LEAs and county governments for education-related products and services, including capital improvement projects.
LEAs must also use the digital platform to report their long range-facility plans.
This section became effective July 1, 2026.
