S257 - 2026 Appropriations Act. (SL 2026-41)

Overview: Section 7.2 of S.L. 2026-41 (Senate Bill 257) removes the requirement that local boards of education of local school administrative units (LEAs) located within counties determined to be the most economically distressed by the Department of Commerce have to collaborate with the State Board of Education, the Department of Public Instruction (DPI), the Friday Institute, and The University of North Carolina educator preparation programs on assessment of efforts to provide student digital literacy instruction in kindergarten through eighth grade in those LEAs.  The remaining entities must continue to assess these efforts in all LEAs.  In addition, the section clarifies that DPI is prohibited from taking any action to impede public school units from accessing Learning.com.
