S257 - 2026 Appropriations Act. (SL 2026-41)

• Provide students with the phone numbers for the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline (Lifeline) and NC Peer Warmline (Warmline).
• Annually verify that the phone numbers for the Lifeline and Warmline are current and accurate.
• If the phone numbers for the Lifeline and Warmline are current and accurate, place the phrases "To reach the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, call 988 or text HOME to 741741" and "To reach the NC Peer Warmline, call 855-733-7762" in all of the following places:

• On any new student identification issued to a student in grades 6 through 12 in a conspicuous location on the student ID.  This section does not require a school to issue a student identification.
• On the school website.
• On the home screen of any electronic device issued to students.
• On any school agenda or calendar, whether digital or printed.
• On a document during any suicide awareness activity.
• On a document when the student registers to attend the school.

This section became effective July 7, 2026, and applies beginning with the 2026-2027 school year.
