S257 - 2026 Appropriations Act. (SL 2026-41)

Session Year 2024

Overview: Section 7.3 of S.L. 2026-41 (Senate Bill 257) codifies the Limited English Proficient allotment and requires that the State Board of Education allocate any funds made available for this purpose on the basis of the average number of students with limited English proficiency over the past three years in each local school administrative unit, charter school, regional school, and laboratory school. Local school administrative units must use the funds to pay for classroom teachers, teacher assistants, tutors, instructional materials, transportation costs, and professional development for teachers for students with limited English proficiency. Counties that have local school administrative units receiving these funds must use the funds to supplement and not supplant local current expense funds.

This section became effective July 1, 2026.
