Overview: Section 16.4 of S.L. 2026-41 (Senate Bill 257) increases the number of full-time assistant district attorneys for the following counties: Edgecombe, Nash, Wilson, Cumberland, Robeson, Anson, Richmond, Scotland, Burke, Caldwell, and Catawba. This section also changes the distribution for assistant district attorneys for the following counties: Burke, Caldwell, and Catawba.
The provision that generally increases the number of assistant district attorneys for the above counties became effective July 1, 2026. The provision that changes the distributions for assistant district attorneys in Burke, Caldwell, and Catawba becomes effective January 1, 2027.
