Overview: Section 43.18 of S.L. 2026‑41 (Senate Bill 257) amends the laws that regulate annual reporting requirements for railroads, canals, or other public works of internal improvement in which the State owns an interest by adding the House of Representatives Appropriations Committee on Transportation, the Senate Appropriations Committee on the Department of Transportation, the Joint Legislative Transportation Oversight Committee, the State Auditor, and the Fiscal Research Division as report recipients.

This section also adds the same report recipients to laws on the annual reporting requirements for State‑owned railroad companies. It further specifies that a State‑owned railroad company must provide information and data within its possession, or ascertainable from its records, at the request of the State Auditor or Fiscal Research Division and is subject to audit and investigation by the State Auditor.

This section became effective July 1, 2026.
