Overview: Section 43.13 of S.L. 2026-41 (Senate Bill 257) exempts Military Veteran special registration license plates from the requirement that all license plates issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) for private passenger vehicles and private hauler vehicles be either (i) a "First in Flight" plate, (ii) a "First in Freedom" plate, or (iii) a "National/State Mottos" plate.
This section also requires that Military Veteran special registration license plates issued by the DMV must (i) bear the words "U.S. Military Veteran" across the top of the plate and (ii) bear the name and insignia of the branch of service in which the individual served on the left side of the plate.
This section becomes effective October 1, 2026.
