What is the Special Olympics?
Special Olympics North Carolina offers year-round sports training and competition for nearly 40,000 children and adults with intellectual disabilities. These athletes inspire greatness through their success and provide motivation to the thousands of coaches, sports officials, local program committee members, and event organizers. SONC offers Olympic-type competition in 19 sports on local and state levels. For more information please visit Special Olympics North Carolina at www.specialolympicsnc.com.
What does the North Carolina General Assembly Police Department do for the Special Olympics?
In previous years, the North Carolina General Assembly Police Department has raised funds through corporate sponsorships and t-shirt/hat donations. The torch run coordinator sends out a newsletter to the officers about fund-raising events and volunteer opportunities. A small team of North Carolina General Assembly officers ran in the Raleigh section of the torch run which brought the flame to the Special Olympics participants closing ceremonies.
If you have any questions regarding our department’s Torch Run please contact Officer Lisa Geist at 919-733-2159 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
