Overview: Part VI of S.L. 2025-51 (Senate Bill 710) requires a North Carolina law enforcement agency considering an applicant for employment as a sworn law enforcement officer, or sheriff considering an applicant for employment as a deputy sheriff, to request and review the complete personnel file of the applicant of any North Carolina law enforcement agency where the applicant was employed within the previous five years. The previous employer of the applicant must grant the requesting agency access to the applicant's complete personnel file upon receipt of a release signed by the applicant.

This Part became effective July 2, 2025.
