SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION 109

 

 

A JOINT RESOLUTION HONORING THE LIFE AND MEMORY OF DANIEL MOORE ALLISON OF JACKSON COUNTY.

 

WHEREAS, Daniel Moore Allison, who was born in Webster, North Carolina, October 9, 1904, the son of Eugenia Moore Allison and the late Thomas Bragg Allison, died on March 4, 1967, after a lifetime of distinguished service to his State and County; and

WHEREAS, Daniel Moore Allison graduated from the Webster High School and attended the University of North Carolina and Western Carolina College at Cullowhee; and

WHEREAS, he married the former Emma Johnson of Franklin, Tennessee, and was the father of four children, three of whom survive: Daniel Moore Allison, Jr., Sylva, North Carolina, Mrs. Edward Gegan, Memphis, Tennessee, and Mrs. James Wilkinson, Jr., Concord, North Carolina; and

WHEREAS, the political activities of Daniel Moore Allison included the following: Representative of Jackson County in the General Assembly in 1945; served for eight years as Clerk of Court of Jackson County; served on the North Carolina State Democratic Executive Committee; served as Chairman of the Jackson County Democratic Executive Committee from 1946-1952, and at the time of his death was serving a new term as Chairman of the Jackson County Democratic Executive Committee and Magistrate of the District Court; and

WHEREAS, Daniel Moore Allison's long and successful business career included such activities as holding the oldest Oldsmobile Dealership in the State of North Carolina, president and owner of the Skyline Oil Company, member of the Board of Directors of Citizens Bank & Trust Co., and member of the Board of Trustees of the Sylva Branch; and

WHEREAS, Daniel Moore Allison was a member of Dillsboro Masonic Lodge No. 459, and a former member of Sylva Rotary Club; served as Chairman of Ration Board during World War II and received a citation from President Franklin D. Roosevelt for his services; he was a member of the North Carolina Automobile Dealer's Association, having served as an officer and member of the legislative body of that Association; and, in 1965, was named "Boss of the Year" by the Jackson County Junior Chamber of Commerce; and

WHEREAS, Daniel Moore Allison was a Methodist, having served on the Board of Trustees and Board of Stewards:

 

Now, therefore, be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

 

Section 1.  That in the passing of Daniel Moore Allison, the State of North Carolina and the County of Jackson have lost a distinguished citizen, and the General Assembly of North Carolina expresses its sincere and profound sorrow to the members of his family.

Sec. 2.  That a copy of this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of both the Senate and House of Representatives, and that a copy be forwarded by the Secretary of State to the Sylva Herald, Sylva, North Carolina, the Asheville Citizen-Times, Asheville, North Carolina, and to his widow, Mrs. Emma Johnson Allison, Sylva, North Carolina.

Sec. 3.  This Resolution shall become effective upon its adoption.

In the General Assembly read three times and ratified, this the 17th day of March, 1967.
